Proteins are present in every cell in your body. They are made up of amino acids, which vary depending on the food source. There are 20 amino acids and nine of these are essential – you need to get them from your diet. Protein is therefore a vital nutrient in a healthy balanced diet. Dietary protein is needed at all stages of life and the amount you need depends on your gender, age, activity level and health status (Morris et al., 2022).
Protein helps to grow and maintain the body in many ways, including our muscles, skin, blood, organs, hair nails, and as a bonus it even helps to keep hunger at bay! Protein intake evenly spread over the day stimulates muscle protein production (Mamerow et al., 2014; Morris et al., 2022; Westerterp-Plantenga, 2012).
Dietary fibre is a type of carbohydrate, which has many health benefits including aiding digestion and preventing constipation. Dietary sources of fibre include whole grains, fruit, vegetables, pulses, nuts, and seeds. Dietary fibre, like protein, promotes satiety – it helps you feel full (Barber et al., 2020; Salleh et al., 2019).
Most people globally consume less than 20g of fibre a day, falling short of the 25-35g a day recommended by the Nordic Nutrition Recommendations (Stephen et al., 2017). Many Indians – especially women – do not eat enough dietary fibre (Indian Dietetic Association, 2018; Krishnaswamy & Sesikeran, 2011).

Whey protein is a high-quality protein sourced from milk. It provides all the amino acids the body cannot make and is easily digested and absorbed (Miller, 2006). Whey is also an excellent source of the amino acid leucine, which is key to building muscle (Miller, 2006).
Soy and Pea Proteins are more easily digested and absorbed than many other plant-based proteins (Rutherford et al., 2014). Soy protein is also a plant-based protein with similar protein quality as animal protein (Messina, 2022)! Pea protein is sustainable for greenhouse gas emissions, land use and water use (Poore & Nemecek, 2018).
Rosehip is a Nordic fruit, commonly consumed in the healthy Nordic Diet (WHO, 2018). Sugar beet and apple fibre contains insoluble fibre that aids digestion and keeps the gut healthy (Koutsos, 2015; de Oliveria et al., 2021).
