Fruit acids from Apple 
Apples are known for their high antioxidant potential, helping to prevent oxidative stress to help reveal smooth, radiant skin. The apple’s natural fruit acids help the skin to rejuvenate and naturally exfoliate, which also helps to leave skin feeling smooth. 
 
Antioxidants from Rowan berries 
Rowan berries have been shown to contain a significant number of antioxidants, as well as a bounty of skin-friendly components, including sugars, amino acids, and exfoliating acids. The acids naturally present in the berry help to exfoliate the skin, which can help to minimise pores and refine skin texture. As Rowan berries contain vitamin C, they also help to reveal a refined, radiant complexion. 
 
Lactic Acid 
Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). These naturally occurring acids help to promote the exfoliation process, and work by removing dry, dead skin cells at the surface of the skin to allow for the generation of fresh, new skin cells which appear at the surface. The exfoliating and cell renewing properties of lactic acid help to refine skin texture and thereby reduce the appearance of imperfections, such as blemishes an uneven skin tone – which in turn helps to restore radiance to the complexion. 
 
Natural-origin Almond Shell Granules 
The natural-origin almond shell granules in the Optimals Exfoliating Face Scrub work to physically remove dirt, oil and make-up, as well as helping to remove dead skin cells from the surface. This helps reveal a more radiant complexion. Physical exfoliation also serves to to boost the skin’s normal rate of cell renewal, which can aid in the skin’s ability to retain moisture, further helping to promote smooth, soft, healthy-looking skin.

Almonds are the source for one of beauty’s most soothing and nourishing ingredients, sweet almond oil. Produced from the almond tree’s fruit, almond oil has superb moisturising properties for skin, hair and nails and is protective and hydrating, thanks to its vitamin A, B and E content. The almond fruit itself is a multi-purpose beauty ingredient – we also use almond shell powder in our cosmetics for its natural, exfoliating action.  

Apples are part of the rose family, along with plums and pears, and one of the most widely eaten fruits worldwide. In Sweden, we have around 13 varieties, some with traditional Swedish names like ‘Ingrid-Marie’ and ‘Frida’, and all of them rich in antioxidants and healthy fruit sugars. These make apples wonderfully nutritional snacks as well as delicious baking ingredients, and in beauty, their combined content of fruit sugars and acids helps to protect, moisturise and encourage skin exfoliation. 

This multi-purpose exfoliating acid is an excellent choice for bright, smooth, firm and hydrated skin. An AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), Lactic Acid works by encouraging skin to shed dead cells and transfering new cells to the surface. It’s already found in the skin’s NMF (Natural Moisturising Factor) which is a whole range of substances vital for keeping skin supple and hydrated. As a larger molecule than Glycolic acid, Lactic acid is generally well tolerated by most skin types.

The rowan berry shrub is native to our northern hemisphere and bears orange-red berry fruits in the autumn. Rowan berries are a great ingredient in beauty products as they contain vitamin C, a well-known skin brightener which can help to reveal radiant looking skin. The rowan berry’s fruit acids content also helps to exfoliate the skin, working to minimise pores and encourage a healthy-looking complexion.
